What is Washer?

Washers are vital components in fastening and assembly operations. A washer’s shape, features and specifications are directly related to its application and the requirements of the end product it will be used in.

Wahsers perform many functions in addition to the common one of acting as a seal for bolts, nuts, screws and rivets. They also insulate, seal, lock, space, improve appearance, provide, spring take-up, align, distribute loads, etc.

Washers are indispensable to the function of virtually every machine or device with moving parts. Failure to properly specify the best type of washer can generate costs that far exceed the value of even the most expensive washer-a broken penny washer can shut down a million dollar machine!

Washers are available in almost limitless varietise. Any types of material that can be stamped can be made into a washer. Materials used in the manufactur of washers cover a broad range of metallics and non-metallics, including low and high carbon steels, stainless steel and steel alloys, copper based materials, beryllium copper, phosphor bronze, titanium, aluminum, fiber, mica, mylar, rubber, nylon, teflon, phenolic, etc. You name it, and a WASHER DIVISION member will be equipped to handle it!

Types of Washers?

Square washer: Square washers are square in shape and may be flat on both sides or flat on one side and beveled on one side. Often used with square head bolts, square washers prevent pull through and provide a larger surface area and greater hold than standard round flat washers.

Automotive Washer: Automotive washers A flat annulus or ring, often of metal, used to spread the load of a screwed fastening. Additionally, a plain washer may be used when the hole is a specific diameter than the fixing nut and commonly used in vehicle auto parts.

Aluminum Washer: Aluminum washers is a widely-used material for components due to its high strength-to-weight ratio, high resistance to corrosion, durability and thermal and electrical conductivity. In addition, it is soft and ductile, making it easy to shape and form. Aluminum combines readily with other elements to form alloys that enhance its properties and make it an ideal material for many applications.

Belleville washer: Belleville washers also called conical spring washers are manufactured and are designed specifically for Heavy Duty Bolted section such as Bus Bars, Transformers, Rectifiers, Heat Exchangers, Transmission, etc. These washers are intended to counteract the effect of setting which results in bolt/nut assemblies working loose.

Bi metal washer: Bi metal washers in copper + aluminum i.e. one side copper and one side aluminum. The copper and aluminum composition is in the ratio 80:20 (80% aluminum, 20% copper). These are plain washers but with two different metals on wither side.

Brass Washer: Brass washers is an alloy made of copper and zinc, and it is a material that gets used in a wide range of applications. It is popularly used in musical instruments such as the French horn, trumpet, trombone, and tuba, because of its excellent acoustic properties. When it comes to washers, brass is used for its low-friction properties in applications like plumbing and electrical work, gears, bearings, doorknobs, and much more.

Bush Washer: Bush washers accurately machined with reamed bores and splinted outside edges for a precision fit. Extra care must be taken when mounting saw blades onto a saw machine spindle when using bushing washers.

Carbon Steel Washer: Carbon steel washers are from very high quality raw material which ensures high durability at its user end. These Carbon Steel Washers are widely finds its valuable applications in various industrial sectors. Washers are used for screw and bolt assemblies that must withstand harsh environments.

Conical Washer: Conical washers, also known as contact Belleville washers, hold tight where heat or vibration might shake standard washers loose. Belleville or conical spring washers are commonly used to maintain the tension in assemblies when there are conditions of thermal expansion and contraction.

Copper Washer: Copper washers is both malleable and ductile, making it an ideal metal for stamping and forming. In addition, it is a good conductor of heat and, in its pure form, of electricity. When combined with beryllium, the resulting alloy is non-magnetic, corrosion-resistant and an excellent heat and electrical conductor.

Cup Washer: Cup washers form a cup for the head of the screw or fastener to fit in, creating a finish flush with the top of the head. Used for finishing, cup washers are shaped like a cup. Cup Washer which is widely used for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders in various sizes, Automobile industry and is also used for custom settings in any type of fittings and shades. The polymers that are used for making Cup Washers are Nitrile, Natural Rubber.

Disc spring washer: Disc spring washers in every material such as Brass, Copper, Aluminium, Fibre, Mild Steel (M.S.), Stainless Steel (Grade 201,202,304,316, 316L, 400 etc), Carbon Steel, Spring Steel, High Tensile Steel.

Fender washer: Fender washers with a particularly large outer diameter in proportion to its central hole. These are commonly used to spread the load on thin sheet metal, and are named after their use on automobile fenders. They can also be used to make a connection to a hole that has been enlarged by rust or wear.

Flat washer: Flat washers are round outer diameter thin plates with a center hole punched to the size of the bolt or screw. Flat washers are used to distribute loads of threaded bolts, screws and nuts evenly as the fastener is tightened.

Fiber Washer: Fiber washers is made using high quality of fibers and is designed as per latest technologies. These are ideal to be used in a number of demanding applications across the sectors.

Hardened washer: Hardened washers provide a smooth bearing surface and are used under the head of a bolt and / or a nut. The chemical, mechanical, and dimensional requirements for hardened washers are covered under the ASTM specification F436. These washers are through hardened or carburized to add strength, but are physically.

High Tensile Washer: High tensile washers have been specifically designed for heavy Bolted Sections such as Bus Bars, Transformers, Rectifiers, Heat Exchangers, Transmissions etc. These springs are intended to counteract the effect of setting which results in bolt/nut assemblies working loose. HSFG Washer: High Strength Friction Grip (HSFG) washers possess strength and durability to withstand massive amount of pressure or tension. The HSFG Washers have high corrosion-resistance. HSFG washers are used under the head of a high strength bolt or similar external threaded fasteners. Its usually made of medium carbon steel through hardened or carburized to a higher strength mechanical properties.

Hex Washer: Hex washers its design look like Hexagonal shaped shaft or rod. The washers are available with smooth edges for machined faces or with one side curve edges for rough faces. Hex Washers available material in High Tensile Alloy Steel, Carbon Steel, Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, Titanium, Copper, Copper Nickel, Phosphor Bronze, Silicon bronze etc.

Industrial Washer: Industrial washers have been specifically designed for heavy Bolted Sections such as Bus Bars, Transformers, Rectifiers, Heat Exchangers, Transmissions etc.

Lock washer: Split ring lock washers are used to prevent nuts, bolts and screws from vibrating loose. These washers are rings which are split at one point and bent into a helical shape.

Machined Washer: Machined washers are highly demanded in the market due to easy installation and fine finish. Machine washers in every material such as Brass, Copper, Aluminium, Fibre, Mild Steel (M.S.), Stainless Steel (Grade 201,202,304,316, 316L, 400 etc), Carbon Steel, Spring Steel, High Tensile Steel.

Mild Steel Washer: Mild steel washers made using quality raw materials, these washers are normally used to distribute the load of a threaded fastener.
